Causes of Hip Pain
It’s not often that we stop and think about the wear and tear on our hips. When it comes to pain in our bodies, we’re usually focused on our back, neck, and shoulders. But when you stop and think about it, we need our hip for a lot of things. Without our hips, we wouldn’t be able to sit upright, walk or run smoothly, or support our own weight.
So if we stop and think about our anatomy, we realize that our hips are involved in everything that we do, which means that it’s critical for them to be in alignment, have full mobility, and ultimately not hurt us.
Unfortunately, many of us, young and old, experience regular hip pain or tension. Now there are lots of reasons why you might be having some problems with your hips, but the most common causes of hip pain include:
Inflammation
Overuse
Injuries
Trauma
Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Pinched nerves
Poor posture
Sciatica
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Hip Pain
While our hips can withstand quite a bit of stress, it’s important to remember that cartilage can wear down with age, and both the joint and surrounding tendons can become compromised over time.
So let’s say this does happen - what are our treatment options? How do you treat such a significant body part like the hips?
When it comes to treating hip pain, sometimes it’s about strengthening the area, and if this is the case, many people will opt for physical therapy, exercise, and even yoga. Other times, people who suffer from hip pain will turn to prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and even hip surgery if necessary.
The problem with many of these treatment options though, is that they either don’t deliver reliable results or they only alleviate a person’s pain temporarily, rather than fixing the actual problem. That’s where chiropractic care comes in.
In the past few years, more and more research has been done to determine if chiropractic adjustments are a viable, permanent option for patients with hip pain. One study reported that for a group of people with sciatica, regular chiropractic adjustments proved so effective that 60% of the patients were able to avoid costly surgery!
Similar studies have also reported that regular chiropractic adjustments were effective in treating other sources of hip pain, including:
Osteoarthritis
Inflammation
Lack of joint mobility
Hip and spinal misalignment
